Welcome to Alternative Education Academy LLC d/b/a Montessori Tutoring Center, where we specialize in teaching highly functional children in grades 1-12 who face challenges due to autism spectrum disorder, attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder, and other learning disabilities. Our approach combines the Montessori method with Florida Department of Education standards, allowing each student to thrive at their own pace. We focus on personalized learning strategies that cater to individual needs while fostering both academic success and personal growth.
Tailored Learning Experiences
At our center, we offer a variety of tutoring options designed specifically for students with unique learning profiles. Our classes range from one-on-one sessions to small group activities, ensuring that each child receives the attention and support they need to excel.
Grades 1-5: Building a Strong Foundation
For students in grades 1-5, we emphasize reinforcing language arts requirements for each grade level. Specifically making sure that students master reading and writing skills effectively. Reading skills from phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and reading comprehension. Writing skills, spelling, vocabulary, from basic letters to words, sentences, and essays.
This is also done with mathematical skills, making sure that the foundation for math concepts is mastered as the student advances from 1st to 4th grade. We focus on building core competencies year by year, as they progress from basic counting and single-digit addition to multi-digit operations, fractions, decimals, and early algebraic reasoning across first through fourth grades.
Montessori materials are used as hands-on learning tools designed to help children grasp abstract concepts through tactile exploration, independence, and self-correction. These materials isolate specific skills or qualities—such as size, shape, sound, or numerical value—allowing students to learn at their own pace.
We use Montessori math materials to teach hard ideas like odd and even numbers, place values, and fractions. Children touch and move beads, cards, and blocks. This hands-on method helps them see and feel math before they write it down on paper.
Lower elementary students also learn science and social studies through video lessons that turn tough concepts, distant places, and historical timelines into visual stories. Making sure that students are mastering these concepts is done through quizzes and activities. Science topics include foundational knowledge across life, physical, and earth sciences. Core topics include plant and animal traits in 1st grade, habitats and biodiversity in 2nd grade, forces and fossils in 3rd grade, and energy, waves, and human body systems in 4th grade.
Social studies requirements for grades 1st to 4th start with lessons on family, school rules, and communities, advancing into local geography and neighborhoods. Moving into local government, culture, and world regions. History lessons are presented in 4th grade.
Grades 6-8: Preparing for the Future
In our programs for grades 6-8, we focus on developing independence and self-advocacy skills. Our approach balances academic rigor with personal development, preparing students for high school and beyond while instilling confidence in their abilities.
Middle school language arts requirements focus on building advanced reading comprehension, analytical writing, and effective communication skills. Reading and analyzing literature, understanding concepts like theme, main idea, plot. Writing and composition skills, including research skills, to find and include supportive evidence, using sources and proper citations. Grammar lessons cover capitalization, punctuation, and advanced spelling and vocabulary.
Middle school math requirements generally mandate passing three consecutive years of grade-level mathematics grades 6 through 8, transitioning from foundational arithmetic and ratios to early algebra, with advanced tracks allowing students to complete high school Algebra I or Geometry before entering 9th grade.
Students complete three higher science courses in each grade to meet promotion requirements. These courses combine life science, physical science, and earth and space science. Lab investigations are done through virtual lessons.
Social studies courses in grades 6 to 8, to meet promotion requirements, include lessons on Civics, US History, and World History, covering lessons on early civilizations, exploration, the American Revolution, Civil War and Reconstruction eras.
